Yesterday (Friday) I went back to the offices of A Verkerk Ltd for the first time since the earthquake. I've been working from home (on and off). The company has done really well to get back up and running again so soon. The HR manager told me that many employees are glad to be working again - not just for the money, but also to be busy. This was my first trip in to Christchurch and I was surprised at the distribution of the damage. On the hill suburbs (Cashmere) there was a lot of damage - wall fallen over and roof tiles shaken off. I avoided the centre and went around the ring-road where there was very little obvious damage. There were one or two bumps in the road and some evidence of liquifaction.
In the afternoon I had some root canal work done. I seemed to spend ages in the dentist's chair. The only real pain was when I had to pay.
In the evening the Canterbury Crusaders (local rugby team) beat the Aussies! All in all - a day of highs and lows.
